Woodland Garden
My clients live in the heart of the Cotswolds, in a quintessential limestone cottage. Situated within a woodland setting, the garden had a steep sloping profile providing breathtaking views.
My clients wanted to create a space that embraced the woodland landscape, using natural materials, providing a rich habitat for wildlife and creating spaces to entertain family and friends which had a more formal feel.
In this design I have maximized the space around the house, grounding the house within the footprint of the garden, and ensuring that the views are celebrated. I have created a formality around the house as the most used area, and gradually fades away as the garden slops towards to wider woodland landscape.
The kitchen garden has been remodeled, making this a beautiful feature to the garden. A terrace has been added around the greenhouse, creating a new seating area. Raised beds have been added lined with beautiful rustic hazel hurdles, providing ample space for my clients to grow their own vegetables or cut flowers for the house.
The formal terrace which was once a path has been extended with plentiful space to sit with a morning coffee, and formal dining which can sit up to 8 people. The outdoor kitchen provides all you could possibly need to dine alfresco, and the herb planter close by is perfect for cooking or garnishing cocktails.
In the steepest area of the garden, I have made the most of the dense canopy of the woodland and created a secret viewing terrace. This is the perfect spot to retreat to on an evening, watching the sun set with a glass of wine in front of the fire pit.
A newly created wildlife pond has been created in the lower part of the garden, a perfectly quiet and sheltered spot to escape to. Planting throughout has also been carefully chosen to create a haven for pollinators.
Last but not least is a special aspect of this garden, a shepherds hut. My clients wanted to create luxury woodland escape for friends and family to stay. This area has a fire pit for toasting marshmallows, BBQ and woodfired hot tub. The festoon lighting is gentle on wildlife and provides a beautiful backdrop to relax and unwind.
