Design process

Jessica talking to client about the brief
  • After your initial consultation we will work together to create your brief. You will be guided through this process to define what you want to achieve with your garden and your budget. We will discuss your likes and dislikes and I will learn more about your lifestyle to ensure that the design compliments this and maximises your investment. Collaboration is fundamental to my way of working; we will work together throughout the development of your design ensuring you are inspired to get the garden of your dreams.

Site survey and analysis with client
  • A survey of your garden is an essential step prior to any design work commencing. A site survey involves measuring all aspects of your garden from boundaries, to level changes and permanent features that will impact the garden such as garden buildings and trees. In addition to this, a detailed site analysis will be undertaken to gather key information that may impact your design for example; if you are overlooked by neighbours, the soil and light conditions, any views you have that could be maximised and the architecture of your home.

  • Mood boards will be used throughout the garden design process from developing your brief to delivering your final plans. These are powerful tools to facilitate decision making, provide inspiration and help you to visualise how your new garden may look.

Master layout plan
  • A master layout plan is the blue print of your new garden. These are detailed and drawn to scale which can be given straight to high quality landscapers to build your garden. These plans will specify your materials, suppliers, lighting and irrigation.

Planting plan
  • Planting plans are developed once we have agreed your master layout plan. I will work with you to understand the style of planting you want to achieve in your garden, ensuring plans are carefully curated to reflect how you want your space to feel, your preferred colour palette and your garden maintenance requirements. I will guide you through this process to ensure that your final plant choices take into account the soil, light and conditions of your garden, ensuring that they thrive once planted. The plans will detail how each area of planting in your garden will look so that you know what to plant where and the quantity required.

After care - Jessica with plants
  • Gardens by their very nature will evolve over time as they mature, and as a result sometimes there is a need to adjust elements to keep your garden looking it’s best.

Following any design package you can choose to add on the following aftercare packages:

Maintenance guides: I can provide a guide on how to care for all of the plants specified in your planting plan. This will be bespoke to the plants specified in your design so you know that all the information is relevant for your garden.

Seasonal visits: I can visit you throughout the year to see how your garden is developing through each season. We can work together to resolve any issues that may have arisen since the garden has been built or planted and also review any planting that may need special attention.

‘I look forward to collaborating with Jess again in the future due to her professionalism and attention to detail.’
