Entertaining Garden

My clients have a small holding and equestrian facilities. The garden is substantial in size, but they had become uninspired and wanted my help to create a space where they can retreat from the small holding to relax and entertain large groups of friends.

Entertaining Garden

My brief was relaxed formal cottage garden, and due to livestock and their pet dogs securing the garden and using non-toxic plants was a must.

I have created several different rooms, ensuring that each area could be secured, and using every inch of the space available.

The front of the property was laid to lawn and rarely used. In order to create a more beautiful entrance to the home I added in large borders filled with cottage garden style plants and low evergreen hedging for all year colour and structure.

Re-positioning the greenhouse in a more suitable location has increased the light conditions for growing, and is now situation in the heart of a kitchen garden. Viewed directly from a glass and oak framed dining room means the clients and their guests can see exactly where their fresh fruit and vegetables have come from.

The rear garden has retained a large area of lawn with expansive borders filled with scented roses, salvias and other cottage style plants. Two seating areas have been created, to provide space both in the sun and shade. One is on the terrace and acts as an extension to the living room, perfect for a cup of  tea in the garden. The other is a formal dining space which can accommodate up to 8 people.

The lime tree lined avenue leads you out of the rear garden to what is now the heart of this garden; the pool and entertaining area.

A large natural pool has been centered in this space, which can be viewed perfectly from the house, but sheltered from neighbours. The new pool house means the space can be used in all seasons, and there is plenty of space to accommodate entertaining large groups of people on a hot summers day.

The paddocks for grazing livestock have been maintained with the addition of toxic free trees. These give the most spectacular firework of colour in the landscape as autumn approaches.
